Lower end Ovation`s?

I`m looking into getting an acoustic(acoustic/electric) guitar and i really like the Ovation`s but i don`t want to spend too much $!!! Anyone own or have experience with their Celebrity series?

Never liked them. I had one, thought it would sound like a Balladeer, but I was wrong. I kept it for about 2 months before I sold it. I do like Ovations, but not the Celebrity models.

I'm not a big Ibanez fan, but their low end acoustics really sound pretty good. I listen to my daughter play it and I tried picking it up and was mildly surprised. I think the model was an AEL20D or something like that. She also has a EW20asent which is an exotic wood model. A little more than the other model, but the other model does sound better to me.

Yamaha is another one that make good low end models.

Sounded too tinny to me. The fretboard was kinda rough, sharp and the it just sounded cheap. But everybody has a different ear. That was just my evaluation after hearing it and playing it.

I love the Balladeer type. My dad has a 70's model and it sounds great. Thats what prompt me to run out and get an Ovation (Celebrity model). It was not the same. Most Ovation models are good provided you duct tape them to your lap so they don't slide off.

Is Adamas still top of the line? I haven't been keeping up with the Ovation growth.

I've always dug Ovation, it was the first guitar I learned to play on.

It happens to be a 1977 Ovation Legend. Still have it.

But what low end models I've played, I have enjoyed. I've found a couple of models you can pickup for like 300$. Just gotta search till you find the one.

Ibanez does make a decent low end acoustic. They have several models but the Korean made ones with Grover tuners are not bad for the money and I think GC had them new for about 200-250 so used they should have something pretty decent for the money.
The CC257 which I believe became the CC057 are ok ovations. They are very bright which is typical of that adamas style but they also don't lack any body or low end either..but its not a real round sound or complex balanced sound you'd find in a 1000+ acoustic. Different tastes, I think they sound good for a 200-300 used price acoustic.
The best bang for buck is the older USA models with a soundhole if you want 'the' ovation sound. They have to have been cared for tho as the top is prone to splitting when dry.. they used some fairly thin spruce.
They typically didn't have any electronics either.

The high end stuff, and older models of course are great! But honestly I give a lot of credit to their lower stuff too. I played a very thin bodied one that sounded very nice, and played great. A couple of 12-strings caught my eye too.

check out the Schecter Diamond series... same price range, but little nice thatn the Ovation Celebrity...

also Crafter makes some REALLY great guitars for the money.. and I think they have some "roundbacks"
